He Was Not Spared

He Was Not Spared

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Romans 8:32. Here, the Apostle Paul states, “He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, with Him, graciously give us all things?” This truth and promise should produce worship and gratitude in our hearts. God has done the unimaginable in sending His Son, the One with whom He shares glory (John 17:5). The Son, who became human, never sinned and always pleased the Father, and Scripture states that He was not spared.

What does it mean to be spared? It means to be kept out of danger, to be secure from promised harm, to have what’s due to you passed over. To not be spared is the complete opposite. God did not spare His Son from receiving His just wrath on the cross. Jesus wasn’t spared because of our sins; He was nailed to a cross in our place to receive what we deserved. He was not spared, and His death satisfied the wrath of God. Praise God!

How Will He Not Also With Him Graciously Give Us All Things

The fact that God now graciously gives us all things with the One who was not spared demonstrates that Jesus was raised from the grave! It is through His death, burial, resurrection, and ascension that we receive all things. We can be sure that in this Son, because of God’s love for us, He will graciously give us all things that pertain to life and godliness. For the Christian, we have everything we need in our risen King.

How Should We Live and Apply These Great Promises?

  1. Find Peace in God’s Love: Let the truth that God willingly gave up His Son for us be a source of holy confidence and peace in times of uncertainty and fear. He is for us! When doubts arise, when trials come, and even when we’re faced with our own shortcomings, let’s remind ourselves of God’s unfailing love, which is greater than any challenge or trial we face.
  2. Rely on God’s Provision: Instead of being anxious about our needs, let us be stirred to trust God’s provision. Just as He gave His Son for us, He will also provide for our daily needs. With this in mind, let us approach His throne boldly, knowing that He is for us.
  3. Rejoice with Purpose: Rejoice, knowing that everything that would separate you from God has been dealt with by Jesus on the cross, and everything that will keep us in God has been graciously given to us because of Jesus. This should fuel our joy and inspire us to live with purpose among one another and to an onlooking world.

May the Lord continue to bless His people in Jesus.
